Families with ASD is proud be the first Independent Autism Family Resource Center in the Greater Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky Area. "This has been one of our main goals of Families with ASD. It has taken us three years of hard work to fianlly get to this point. We are so happy that the ASD Board's hard work has finally paid off. It has been a long time coming. Just think, before we opened the Autism Center, the group was run out of my basement!", said Julia Ann Smith, Co-Founder of Families with ASD. "Our grand opening was November 28, 2008. Families with ASD's Autism Family Resource Center is proud to serve the Greater Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky Area as the "Point of Entry" for families new and old to the Autism Diagnosis. The Autism Family Resource Center helps families connect with local and national autism organizations that will help support their families. Our Autism Family Resource Center will be open year round and is always FREE to families. We welcome everyone touched by autism to come in, check us out and see what we are all about.
The Front Office is where Families can come to collect FREE information from Local Organizations that work with children and adults on the Autism Spectrum as well as the National Autism Organizations. This is also where you get your Free Library Card. We then have a Computer Lab that is connected to the Internet so you can check out on-line autism support groups and research, and also has the Writing with Symbols software and Board Maker, that you can use to make picture schedules and symbols. Outside the Computer Lab we have a Family to Family Message Boards. These are for families to use to post info about needed items, babysitting, or offer items for sale, or offer babysitting services yourself. etc. We also have a little Kitchenette that has a coffee station/ a sink and a Handicapped Accessible bathroom.
Next we have the Children's Sensory Play room. Inside we have toys/sensory items, and tv/dvd player so children can relax and socialize while parents are looking in at the library or checking out the computer lab. We do not have child care, so families will need to keep an eye on their children, but it is very inviting and child friendly.
The Library has many donated books, cd's, videos, dvd's, computer software, sensory items and learning toys. Families can come in and check out up to two items each visit. As we get more donated items, the limit will increase.
The Autism Family Resource is Free and open to everyone. Please come out and network with other families that live with autism 24/7.
